Installed ivory glass tile as backsplash in our kitchen. We were told that the glass tile should be white and that it is not transparent. Should be white after installation.

After installed, the tile became green, which is the color of the wall that it was installed over. The green color is uniform over the entire backsplash as if the tile was supposed to be that green color.

We were asked if used glass tile mortar. We did. Since we could not find the receipt showing we used this specific type of mortar, Floor & Dรฉcor contacted the tile manufacturer. They were told it did not make a difference concerning the color.

We were then told that it could be a reflection of the opposing walls. That might make some sense but the walls are beige, not green. When you take an uninstalled tile and put it next to the installed tile, the uninstalled tile stays white. So how can that be a reflection?

We were asked if we used a backerboard. We did not. The are many articles that there is no need for a backerboard unless there is damage to the walls. There was no damage to the wall, it was only painted. Also found articles of pictures showing installing glass tile over green surface and it did not bleed through.

Floor & Dรฉcor sent inspector. Inspection report stated it was a reflection of the opposing green walls. I had stated and shown pictures that the opposing walls are beige โ€“ not green. Not to mention that the area is also next to wood cabinets. Why would all of the tiles still have the same uniform green color with several other colors right next to it. Bought this up to the Floor & Dรฉcor customer service rep and he agreed that it did not make sense. He got back with the inspector and inspector said it was reflecting the green from the wall it was installed on. Note again that the tiles were not transparent and should be white.

When I brought that up, he then asked about the glass mortar and backerboard again. At that point, it was obvious that this was going nowhere and they were going to use any excuse they could.

We have spent over $10k in the last few years and contractor we used has spent over $200k for his clients. Neither of us will be using or recommending them again.

Reason of review: Damaged or defective.

Monetary Loss: $1500.

Preferred solution: Pay for the cost to redo the backsplash.

Floor And Decor Cons: Excuses given for a defective product.

This happen to us also! We bought pure snow brick glass tile and ended up with light gray tile!!!! The installers used bright white thinset and alabaster white grout.
